Guide to Pet Emergencies
The information below is a guide only, if you have any doubt about your pet’s condition call or bring your pet to a veterinarian or animal hospital immediately.
The following list is a general guide of pet emergency care situations:
- Sudden swelling of the face or development of hives
- Struck by a car or in the car when an accident has occurred
- Trauma from a fall or another animal
- Seizures
- Unconsciousness or collapse
- Difficulty breathing
- Ingestion of suspected poisons: human medications, rat poison or snail bait, antifreeze, cleansers, fertilizers or overdosing of prescribed medications
- Noticeable lethargy
- A suddenly swollen abdomen
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24-hours or longer
- Trouble delivering puppies or kittens
- Bite wounds or lacerations of any size
- Pale or blue gums
- Bleeding from any site
- Snake or venomous insect bite
